  1. Non-polarized (M0) and polarized M1 and M2 macrophages were treated with or without oxLDL for 6 h. The changes in gene expression were analyzed by cDNA microarray analysis as described in the Materials and methods section. The top 30 upregulated genes in each subset of macrophages are listed. The values denote fold changes (log2 ratio) of normalized intensities during oxLDL treatment. Letters in boldface indicate genes that were also upregulated by more than 2-fold in the two other subsets. "-" indicates genes that did not show significantly altered expression. Twenty-eight of the top 30 upregulated genes in M2 macrophages (93% of the top 30 genes) were also upregulated in M0, while 15 genes in the top 30 upregulated genes in M2 macrophages were upregulated in M1 cells.
