N-3 PUFA induced changes in filamentous actin content in red blood cells. Filamentous actin in red blood cells of healthy middle-aged men before (t0) and after 12 weeks (t12) of 2.7 g/d n-3 PUFA supplementation were labeled with phalloidin and whole cell fluorescence intensity was determined by confocal laser microscopy and data processing. The figure show examples for n-3 PUFA supplementation induced fluorescence intensity changes of two subjects. An increase (A) or a decrease (B) of phalloidin-labeled F-actin in red blood cells from baseline (t0) to study completion (t12) is shown.
