Effect of butyrate on the production of PGE2 induced in cells co-cultured using the contact method for 24 h (a), in cells co-cultured using the transwell method for 24 h (b), in 3T3-L1 cells incubated with RAW264.7-CM for 24 h (c), and in RAW264.7 cells incubated with 3T3-L1-CM for 24 h (d). The concentration of PGE2 in the co-culture medium was determined by ELISA. The concentration of PGE2 produced by non–co-cultured 3T3-L1 or RAW 264.7 cells served as the control. Values from five independent experiments are expressed as the mean ± SD. *p < 0.05, **p < 0.01, and ***p < 0.001 versus co-culture, as determined by ANOVA and the Tukey-Kramer test
