Effect of 4-cholesten-3-one on the mRNA expression of LXR and its target genes in THP-1 macrophages. THP-1 human monocyte cells were first differentiated into macrophage-like cells by exposure to phorbol 12-myristate-13-acetate and then treated with 12.5 μM 4-cholesten-3-one for 24 h. The mRNA expression was examined by Real-time RT-PCR. 18S rRNA was used as a housekeeping gene. Results are expressed as the means ± standard deviation. *p < 0.05, **p < 0.01, ***p < 0.001
