The association between BAT activity and neoplastic status. (A) BAT distribution regions and (B) total metabolic activity (TMA) of the BAT deposits in patients with different neoplastic status. The distribution of activated BAT was significantly (p = 0.043) wider in patients with a history of cancer than in those without. The TMA of activated BAT was significantly (p = 0.028) higher in patients with a history of cancer than in those without. A higher neoplastic status score was associated with a higher average TMA of BAT (Jonckheere-Terpstra Trend Test across the 4 groups, p = 0.043), although there was a positive but non-significant association between neoplastic status and distribution of BAT (p = 0.148).
