Cholesterol absorption by Caco-2 cells is mediated by NPC1L1. a The expression of NPC1L1 in Caco-2 cells. The cells were cultured to 100% confluence. The cellular protein was extracted and subjected to Western blot analysis for the expression of NPC1L1 and β-actin. b The cells were pretreated with ezetimibe at different concentrations for 2 h and then incubated with radioactive micellar cholesterol for 2 h. The absorption of cholesterol in the absence of ezetimibe was normalized to 100%. Results are mean ± SEM of three separate determinations. *P < 0.05, **P < 0.01
