Schematic representation of an MR analysis. This diagram shows that SNPs associated with diet/lifestyle were selected from the GWAS studies. Corresponding effect estimates for these SNPs upon diabetes and glycemic traits were obtained from the DIAGRAM and MAGIC consortium. Because of the randomization of alleles at meiosis, SNPs are not associated with confounding variables that may bias estimates obtained from observational studies
