Scheme of the biosynthesis and actions of steroids in TMZ-resistant GBM. High expression levels of CYP17A1 and CYP19A1 in GBM markedly increase the tolerance of GBM cells to TMZ. By activating AR and NRF2, the expression levels of glutathione peroxidase (GPX) 4, and superoxide dismutase (SOD) 2 are remarkably increased to attenuate TMZ-induced redox damage.
