This is a new working model for illustrating the protective mechanism of NOB in atherosclerosis. OxLDL is transported into macrophages via CD36 to produce fatty acid derivatives that activate PPARG and promote its expression. PPARG is a transcription factor that regulates the expression of CD36, which in turn promotes lipid uptake. NOB inhibits the formation of foam cells and in addition exerts an anti-inflammatory effect
